Summary/Objective

This position is responsible for the sale of the organization’s products in the Northeast US and Eastern provinces of Canada and provides ongoing support to product distribution channel.

  • Territory development responsible for organizational, account strategies, territory planning and administrative responsibilities to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction is maintained.
  • Develops and increases sales revenue to meet assigned targets by creating opportunities and making proposals.
  • Assists with the planning of sales exhibits.
  • Attends trade shows.
  • Participates in education and training conferences on selling and marketing programs.
  • Coordinates and assists in leading sales meetings to include site selection and agenda preparation.
  • Keeps informed of new products, services and other general information of interest to customers.
  • Checks on competitive activity and develops new methods of attaining resellers and assisting resellers in attaining new accounts.
  • Troubleshoots problems regarding products provided.
  • Answers questions from clients and handles complaints.
  • Performs other job-related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand and is expected.

Travel

This position requires up to 50% travel. Frequently travel is outside the local area and overnight.

Required Education and Experience

  • At least three years of field sales experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Five plus years of sales experience, ideally in the field of horticultural technical equipment.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Advanced training in recent sales techniques.

Interpersonal skills. Strong interpersonal skills are required, both for building relationships with clients and effectively communicating with other members of the sales team.
Problem-solving skills. Candidate must be able to listen to the customer’s desires and concerns, and then recommend solutions, possibly including customizing a product.
Self-confidence. Candidate should be confident and persuasive when making sales presentations.
Technological skills. Candidate must have extensive knowledge of the technologically sophisticated products they sell in order to explain their advantages and answer questions.
